WAYLAND, MA- Anne Brensley, the sole declared Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, discussed her professional background in investments and her experience in local politics as a select woman in Wayland. She hopes to redefine the role of Lieutenant Governor from a ceremonial “ribbon cutter” to a powerful advocate who translates the needs and voices of the people into policy changes.

Brensley’s primary motivation for running was to combat state government overreach that she witnessed impacting local communities during her time as a select woman. An example is what is happening in Holden with the MBTA Communities ACT, an act she said she would repeal if she could. She staunchly opposes the MBTA Communities Act, labeling it an unfunded mandate that infringes on local control, and stated she had commissioned a cost impact report to prove its financial burden on municipalities. Another example is the people voting for an audit of the legislature and not getting it. “How does a one-party system really control no better example than the audit? No better example than we decided on something and the state independently said, ‘No, thank you.’ And that was enough.”

Regarding immigration and ICE, she advocated for direct communication between state and federal authorities to prevent chaos and ensure accountability, rather than “closing the doors” on federal agents.

To address high energy costs, she proposed removing state-imposed surcharges, specifically citing the funding mechanism for the Mass Save program as unfair to renters.

She identified parental rights as a significant and growing issue, noting that she had connected with many mothers across the state who felt their voices were being diminished, particularly within school systems.
