Worcester, MA- Bill Wanless, Senior V.P. Communications, Worcester Red Sox, talks about the sudden promotion of Worcester Red Sox manager Chad Tracy to manager of the Boston Red Sox, following the firing of Alex Cora and five other coaches.

Bill discussed the unusual circumstances of the promotion, which occurred mid-game on Saturday. He said Tracy’s thoughts were with his friends who lost their jobs even as he was getting his big break. He provides extensive insight into Tracy’s character, his professional demeanor, his strong relationships with players who came up through Worcester, and his family background. As Bill says, “There isn’t one person that’s ever said a bad word about him.”

He also emphasized that so many of the players came up through the system and know Tracy well or worked with him during Spring Training and those existing relationships will be a major asset in a difficult transition.

Bill also talked about the difference in coaching for the Triple A Red Sox, with the emphasis on having players ready for the big club and managing the Boston Red Sox, he said he and “Trace” were just talking about it the other day, “Someday, I would love to just worry about trying to win a game.”

The interview also touched on the transition for the Worcester team, with Iggy Suarez taking over as the new manager.
