Clark University’s Florencia Sangermano Talks Amazon Research, Rainforest Innovation, and Worcester Connections
Florencia Sangermano, associate professor in the Graduate School of Geography, at Clark University is back from the Amazon. Sangermano stopped by Sherwood’s Diner, home of the Talk of the Commonwealth morning show, to fill us in on the work she and other scientists are doing. Tasked with studying the Rain Forest without entering it, her team developed a strategy that helped collect data on species, including some that were undiscovered until now. Sangermano tells us about the connections she made with fellow scientists as well as the native population. She also explains how the work done over the past four years can be applied in Worcester as well. The group was part of the $10 million XPRIZE Rainforest competition. Her group brought home the $250,000 bonus prize. One of the key takeaways from the experience is that we cannot solve the problems we face alone.
