C. Brittany Boisvert, M.D. – Worcester County Orthopedics joined Talk of the Commonwealth to talk about youth sports injuries. Dr. Boisvert spoke about how with today’s student athlete there is a great deal of specialization, students playing only one sport and playing it year round. In the past young people would participate in different sports depending on the season. Boisvert says many coaches actually prefer this as you can over train or burn out by concentrating on just one sport. She also says that with all the pressure young people have to excel it is important to let kids be kids. Boisvert talks about some of the common injuries, treatments and when that persistent stinger is something you can’t just work through but may be a sign you should see a doctor.
