Ed Augustus on New Role as UniBank CEO, Community Focus Remains Central

Worcester, MA- Ed Augustus is the new CEO of Unibank. He had a nearly 40-year career in public service prior to this role. He was the former City Manager of Worcester and was instrumental in bringing the Worcester Red Sox to the city, for which he was inducted into the WooSox Hall of Fame. He most recently served as the Massachusetts Secretary of Housing where he helped create the Affordable Homes Act.

Augustus spoke on the Talk of the Commonwealth about his new role with UniBank. Unibank is a community bank with a 150-year history and a deep commitment to the Blackstone Valley and Worcester communities. Augustus says his new role aligns perfectly with his past work in public service, focusing on building and supporting the community, now from the private sector.

He recounted how Unibank was an immediate and crucial sponsor in the deal to bring the Worcester Red Sox to the city, demonstrating its community-first instincts and how the bank actively addressed community needs by opening a full-service branch in the Green Island neighborhood, which had been without one for years.

Augustus’s future plans for the bank included diversifying, increasing support for housing development, and enhancing partnerships with non-profits. “We’re not going anywhere. We’re going to be here in this community, part of the community, helping the community advance its goals.”
