Homes for Heroes Rewards Local Heroes for Their Service

RE/MAX Vision Realtor Diane Casey Luong explains how the Homes for Heroes program has returned more than $305,000 to local heroes across Massachusetts.

“When people hear about it for the first time, they often think it sounds too good to be true,” said Luong. “But it really is a legitimate way for heroes to receive recognition for what they do every day.”

WORCESTER, MA-Teachers. Nurses. Police officers. Firefighters. Military members. EMS professionals.

These are the people who keep communities running every day, and according to Diane Casey Luong, they deserve recognition that goes beyond words.

Luong, a Homes for Heroes affiliate realtor and one of the program’s top-performing agents nationwide, joined Radio Worcester to discuss how the organization helps heroes receive financial rewards when buying, selling, or refinancing a home.

Founded in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, Homes for Heroes was created to recognize the contributions of community service professionals. The program has since expanded across the country and now serves a broad range of hero professions.

“When people hear about it for the first time, they often think it sounds too good to be true,” said Luong. “But it really is a legitimate way for heroes to receive recognition for what they do every day.”

How the Program Works

Homes for Heroes provides financial rewards to eligible participants through a network of affiliated real estate professionals and service providers.

Luong explains that when a qualified hero buys, sells, or refinances a home using the program, a portion of the transaction is returned directly to them.

As an affiliate realtor, Luong personally donates approximately 25 percent of her commission back to eligible hero clients.

The rewards can be used however recipients choose, whether that means paying down a mortgage, covering moving expenses, making home improvements, or simply enjoying a well-earned financial benefit.

A Record of Impact

Since joining Homes for Heroes in 2020, Luong has helped 114 heroes receive rewards totaling more than $305,000.

Her work has earned national recognition. In 2025, she was ranked as the No. 10 Homes for Heroes affiliate in the United States.

For Luong, however, the numbers represent something larger than business success.

Each reward check serves as a tangible expression of appreciation for professionals who dedicate their careers to serving others.

Connecting with the Community

Beyond real estate transactions, Luong regularly participates in community events throughout Central Massachusetts to raise awareness about the program and connect heroes with available resources.

These events provide opportunities to educate potential participants, answer questions, and ensure eligible individuals understand the benefits available to them.

She encourages anyone interested in learning more to visit her website or reach out directly.

“So many people think this must be some sort of scam,” Luong said. “I promise you it is not. I have 114 heroes who will tell you otherwise. Their check came in the mail, and they were able to use it however they wanted. This really is a no-strings-attached way for our hero communities to receive some recognition for what they do.”
