Worcester, MA-“How are we preparing the next generation of leaders in this city?”
On this edition of Voice of Business, Karen Pelletier, Executive Vice President of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the Leadership Worcester program. Pelletier discussed the program’s history, explaining it was restarted to prepare the next generation of city leaders. She detailed the competitive application process, the structure of the nine-month program, and its focus on exposing participants to critical community issues like public health and education.
The program receives around 70 applications for 28 spots each year. Each monthly session focuses on a critical issue facing Worcester, featuring speakers and stakeholders from that sector to provide a complex, multi-faceted view.
Pelletier emphasized the program’s success in building a strong, cross-sector network of alumni who remain engaged and influential in the Worcester community. A strong alumni network exists, providing graduates with continued opportunities for learning, networking, and volunteer service. “…that is one of the goals of the program is to make sure that people are connected so that as issues come up, as they want to start something new, they can pick up the phone and call someone who’s going to answer, who can help them.”
