Lights, Camera, Worcester! Edgar Luna on the City’s Growing Role in Major Film & Commercial Productions

edgar luna
Edgar Luna, Business Development Manager, Ex. Office of Economic Development, on how Worcester is attracting major motion pictures and commercials to be shot in the city. Luna facilitates productions, some of which may require a dozen or more large trucks and the closing of streets for filming. Boston or New York may have a hard time closing down a street or small portion of the city where Worcester can more easily accommodate those types of needs. You might be surprised at just how many major motion pictures are shot in Worcester and Luna tells us the number of commercials that use Worcester for a backdrop are also significant to the city’s economy. He runs down some of the major motion pictures shot in Worcester, including Wakanda Forever, which saw Luna himself walking the red carpet in Hollywood. He also runs down programs that help local filmmakers and says that there has been some talk of a studio putting down roots in Worcester. He says Worcester’s location would make sense for a studio. Three movies are set to film in Worcester in the near future. Including a movie based on a New York best seller that will be filmed entirely in the city. He does say the wildfires in L.A. are causing schedules to be rearranged or delayed.
