WORCESTER, MA– Katie Benison Camell and Hailey stop by the Talk of the Commonwealth to update us on what’s been happening with the Mary Beth Benison Foundation and how we have a few more days to help with a fundraiser. The fundraiser is in honor of Katie’s 50th birthday and has a goal of ten thousand dollars. The foundation was started because Katie’s sister, Mary Beth, wished to help others with ALS who did not have the large support system she had.
The demand for assistance has grown significantly, with the foundation having already provided over $38,000 in grants this year, exceeding its typical annual average of $25,000-$30,000. The Mary Beth Benison Foundation provides financial grants, typically between $500 and $1,000, to people with ALS across 25 states. Right now, there is a waiting list of over twenty people who are hoping for assistance. Other fundraisers are in the works including a Christmas-themed cake decorating class, planned for December as a tribute to Mary Beth, who was a pastry chef.
