McGovern on Gaza Ceasefire: ‘Hopeful News’ But Long-Term Peace Still Elusive

Last minute issues with the Gaza ceasefire have been resolved. We spoke with Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) on Thursday morning on what to expect. McGovern called it hopeful news while lamenting the fact that is basically the same deal that was on the table in May and couldn’t get done and the number of lives that have been lost in that time. McGovern said we need to stop the bombing, have a surge of humanitarian aid and have the hostages released. What’s missing in this plan he says is a long term strategy. What is the conclusion? That will have to be worked out as we move along for a long term peace. He said the having the incoming administration involved is a good move as they will be instrumental in implementing it.
