Worcester, MA-State Senator Michael Moore stops by the Radio Worcester diner and tells us he supports Governor Healey’s proposal to temporarily suspend the gas tax “I am personally in favor of it…Look, everyone who’s got the luxury of having a job and a job that can provide you a good quality of life, or I have some colleagues that may be saying, ‘Oh, it’s a political gimmick or that Minogue thought about it first…. I think as Democrats, we always talk about affordability, trying to helping the working person. To me, this is direct short-term relief.'”
He made clear where the money will be made up from matters to his position, “This is coming from the so-called millionaire’s tax where there’s some extra money…I would say that I would probably be in line with the rest of my colleagues if we didn’t have that fair share money and it was directly coming from school aid.”
Public Records and Election Changes
Moore addresses several of the nine ballot questions facing Massachusetts voters, expressing conditional support for expanding public records law if constituent confidentiality is protected, opposition to the “jungle primary” proposal as a repackaged form of ranked choice voting that could disadvantage grassroots candidates, “This is just another way to do ranked choice voting. That’s all it is. It’s just ranked choice voting repackaged.”
Concerns About Repealing Cannabis Legalization
He also highlights concerns about repealing adult-use cannabis legalization given its economic contributions. “Full transparency, I opposed the legalization of cannabis. Since then, a lot of the fears that I had haven’t materialized. …15,000 jobs right now depend on this. It brings in, I think, $10 billion in revenue to the state right now. So that’s hundreds of millions of dollars that are going to be taken out of the economy, out of the state revenues.”
