Polar Park Begins Construction on Dual Batting Cages with Plans for ‘Woo Cages’ to Offer Off-Season Family Fun and Pro-Level Batting Experience

Major League Baseball has decreed that all ballparks will now have two batting cages side by side. Even Polar Park, the newest park in Minor League Baseball, doesn’t have two visiting team conjoined batting cages. Janet Marie Smith and Robert Malone have come up with the solution and construction is now underway so coaches will be able to observe two players hitting side by side. You can see the construction underway if you walk along Madison Street, outside Polar Park, just past the team store. Worcester Red Sox President Dr. Charles Steinberg says what the team wants to do is not just use it during the season for the opposing team but to put together the “Woo Cages.” Now it’s not a done deal yet but what do you think of the idea? Little League teams, softball teams, etc. could come in during the off season and use the cages. How cool would it be to have your birthday party there and let everyone hit balls? So not set in stone but more likely than not that you will soon be able to take batting practice like the pros. Dr. Charles also envisions that monitors could be put in that would show you where your ball would go if you were hitting in your favorite ballpark. Think you could hit one off the “Green Monster?” You may be able to find out sooner than you think. Family fun for all ages!
