QCC President Discusses New Year Initiatives and Programs Boosting Education
A new year at QCC. QCC President Dr. Luis Pedraja tells us about MassReconnect and MassEducate and how successful these programs have been in getting people back to school. QCC is continuing to see an increase in the student population, last year saw a 14% increase. This year is looking strong as well. Dr. Pedraja said removing the impediment of paying for college has brought students to the school but he points out that just because they aren’t paying tuition doesn’t mean they don’t have “skin in the game.” They may have to take time off from work, spend less time with family, not sign up for overtime, etc. So this gives them a boost and helps with retention because they do not hit a financial barrier after a semester or two.
