“How do we bring people together and make special moments even more special?”
By-Hank Stolz
Worcester, MA-On this edition of the podcast of Discover Central MA, Tim Power introduces us to Sisters Charcoots. Devra and Aura speak with Tim and Hank Stolz about their unique business and the special bond of family.
Sister Charcoots was inspired by their large family gatherings and created in honor of a sister who had passed away. Aura spoke about that special motivation, “And unfortunately, one of our sisters passed away almost two years ago now, and she was always so impressed by these grazing tables and was like, ‘Aura, you’ve really got to do something with this.’ And so, kind of in honor of her passing and as a way for us to continue to… have her spirit around.”
They tell us about the evolution of the business from a mobile, build-your-own charcuterie cart to offering custom boards, grazing tables, and workshops. Aura is the visionary and social networker for the business, leveraging her full-time career as a real estate broker to make connections. Devra, a full-time social worker, handles the logistics and operational side; two other sisters are also involved in the business.
They emphasized the importance of local partnerships, citing collaborations with Discover Central Mass, Whittier Farm for ingredients, and Birchtree Bread Company for event hosting.
The core mission of the business is to bring people together and enhance special occasions. As Devra says, “That’s kind of the focus of our business is how do we bring people together and how do we make special moments even more special? And the cart is one of the ways that we do that.”
