Worcester, MA-Westboro Police Chief Todd Minardi was placed on administrative leave after he was found asleep in his city-issued vehicle in a Shrewsbury parking lot, with two bottles of Tito’s vodka visible inside. A wellness check was called when the car had been parked for an extended period; responding Shrewsbury officers noted Minardi appeared intoxicated with a “glassy-eyed stare” upon waking. Westboro officials immediately hired an outside investigator to review the incident. The hosts debate whether the investigation can truly be considered “independent” when the town is paying for it, while acknowledging the difficult nature of covering what appears to be a personal failing of a public figure in a position of authority.
The Boston Globe published new reporting on Worcester Bishop Robert McManus, revealing he was made aware of a problem with a priest earlier than previously known. Worcester remains the only Massachusetts diocese that has not published a list of credibly accused priests. McManus, who is over the mandatory retirement age, continues to serve until Pope Francis appoints a replacement.
