WORCESTER, MA-Listen in as WooSox announcer Ben DeCastro crashes the Worcester Red Sox Show. 

Team President Dr. Charles Steinberg tells us why they have several 11 AM games a year. The morning game this Wednesday was host to over 2,000 students on field trips, emphasizing the team’s mission to cultivate a love for baseball in young people to ensure the game’s future.  “You can only be nostalgic in your later years if you had something in your early years to be nostalgic about.” says Steinberg.  With Ben DeCastro sitting in, Steinberg details the art of creating the gameday atmosphere, from writing PA scripts to the announcer’s delivery.

Dr. Steinberg also recounted the pivotal moments that led to the team’s move to Worcester, “What kind of city is this that generates such love and such pride? And that’s when it all started for me,” shared details about the WooSox Scholars program that provides college scholarships to local eighth-graders, and promoted upcoming events, including a talk by Bull Durham creator Ron Shelton.
