Worcester Chief Development Officer Peter Dunn Highlights Affordable Housing Projects, Including Merrick at the Square Launching This Summer

Worcester’s Chief Development Officer Peter Dunn stops by the diner to talk affordable housing. The Merrick at the Square project is coming online this summer. It will be forty-nine residential units. Dunn said that affordable housing projects can take longer to get off the ground. Sometimes as long as several years to get all the pieces in place. Case in point Merrick at the Square, a project that’s beginnings go back to 2020. The framing is going up now and it should be available for rent this summer. The project will have 38 units that will be at the 60% area mean income level and 11 units will be at 30% area mean income level. The project will also focus on families with 26 of the units being two bedroom and some three bedroom apartments will be available as well. Other affordable housing projects happening in Worcester include the Lincoln Square Boys Club development which will focus on seniors and Synergy Investments which will be working to turn 2 Chestnut Place in the city into twenty-two affordable condos.
