WORCESTER, MA- Paul Matthews, Executive Director of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, and Senior Research Associate Joshua Boucher joined Talk of the Commonwealth to discuss their latest report, “The Promises of the Worcester/Framingham Line.” The study builds on previous research and focuses on a central challenge: how to turn those who currently do not use the train into regular riders.
The report highlights the importance of collaboration among communities along the rail line, noting that regional coordination will be essential to achieving meaningful increases in ridership. Matthews and Boucher emphasized that improving service, accessibility, and awareness will require a shared effort across municipalities.
They also pointed to major infrastructure initiatives that could shape the future of rail travel in the region, including the Allston Multimodal Project and the potential expansion of east-west rail service. Both projects are seen as critical opportunities to improve connectivity and make rail a more viable option for more residents.
Ultimately, the report underscores the need for communities to prioritize state infrastructure investments along the line, aligning local goals with broader transportation strategies to unlock the full potential of the Worcester/Framingham corridor.
