Worcester, MA-Radio Worcester’s Hank Stolz will be your emcee for a night of celebration.

The Worcester Guardian marks three years of providing independent, nonpartisan local news coverage to the Worcester community. Hank speaks with Dave Nordman about the nonprofit news organization’s growth from startup to established media outlet, now reaching over 20,000 daily newsletter subscribers with coverage of city government, schools, and local events.

“I mean, it does seem like yesterday that you and I were sitting outside of Polar Park in the diner talking about this idea of forming a nonprofit news organization and really from scratch. And for that first six months to a year, we like to say we built the plane while it was flying along, but here we are three years later.”

Worcester Guardian’s Third Anniversary Celebration at Off the Rails

The organization will celebrate this milestone with a free anniversary event on Tuesday at 5 PM at Off the Rails, featuring a conversation with Boston Globe editor Brian McGrory, a longtime advocate for nonprofit journalism.

From Startup to Established Worcester News Organization

Nordman reflects on the Guardian’s evolution from “building the plane while flying it” to becoming a trusted daily source for Worcester residents, with millions of page views, growing social media presence, and partnerships with university journalism programs.

The organization continues expanding its community engagement through an upcoming advisory board announcement and sustained support from foundations and local businesses.
