Worcester, MA- Worcester Railers President Kim Golinski stopped by Sherwood’s Diner to talk about the team’s upcoming “Monkey Wrench” Weekend, a fan-focused promotion rooted in the city’s industrial history.

Golinski explained that the Monkey Wrench holds historical significance in Worcester, helping inspire the Railers’ alternate team identity and the theme for the weekend’s events. The promotion will feature a variety of interactive activities for fans, including a “prank war” contest, with the winner receiving $508 and a ride on the team’s Zamboni.

Specialty merchandise, including reversible bucket hats, will be available throughout the weekend. In addition, the team will auction off player-worn specialty jerseys to benefit the nonprofit organization Be Like Brit.

Golinski credited the team’s strong attendance this season in part to promotions like Monkey Wrench Weekend.

“Once people are in there and they see it’s more than a hockey game, there’s always something else happening, whether it’s a charitable part of it or a prank war that’s happening,” Golinski said.

Golinski was joined at the diner by Deke, a service dog-in-training being raised by the Railers in partnership with American Vet Dogs as part of the organization’s broader community outreach efforts.

“Our community is filled with veterans and first responders, and oftentimes after they’ve done their service for our community, they suffer from different ailments,” Golinski said. “A dog can actually help mitigate.”
