Worcester to Release Redacted Police Misconduct Files to Human Rights Commission

Worcester Human Rights Commission member Randy Feldman tells Talk of the Commonwealth that the Chief Diversity Officer for Worcester announced that the City Manager will release the redacted files of complaints on individual officers of the WPD to the commission. The Human Rights Commission has long sought police misconduct files. City Manager Eric Batista had previously denied the report’s release to the commission, citing the investigation from the DOJ and a diversity and equity analysis. Once completed, the redacted files will be given to the HRC, although the timeline is unclear. After reviewing the files, the HRC will then be allowed to make policy recommendations to the WPD. The WPD has asked the HRC for their input on two proposed policy changes when it comes to sexual assault investigations and how “stings” will be handled when it comes to prostitution.
