Worcester, MA- On a recent episode of the Podcast of Discover Central Mass, Tim Power offered an in-depth look at how Discover Central Mass works to promote tourism, support local businesses, and strengthen the regional economy.

Power explained that Discover Central Mass serves as the official Regional Tourism Council for 35 communities throughout Central Massachusetts. Its mission is twofold: attract visitors and events to the region, and serve as a reliable resource once those visitors arrive.

“Our goal is to bring events into Central Massachusetts, bring tourists into Central Massachusetts, and then once they’re there, be that resource for them,” Power said.

A major component of Discover Central Mass’s work is providing practical tools for both visitors and member businesses. Power highlighted resources such as the organization’s widely used online events calendar, regional visitor guides, and ongoing social media promotion designed to showcase everything Central Massachusetts has to offer.

Power also emphasized the region’s growing appeal as a true four-season destination, noting that Central Massachusetts can compete with Boston while also complementing it. Rather than positioning the region in opposition to the city, Discover Central Mass focuses on offering visitors a distinct experience that includes outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, and major venues that generate significant economic impact.

Another key strategy discussed during the podcast was Discover Central Mass’s targeted marketing approach. Power explained that a significant portion of the organization’s campaigns are aimed at audiences located 60 miles or more outside the region, including major cities and airports. These efforts are designed to attract new visitors and bring fresh tourism dollars into Central Massachusetts.

Through coordinated marketing, regional partnerships, and strong support for local businesses, Discover Central Mass continues to position the region as an accessible, attractive destination for both events and leisure travel.
