Worcester, MA- Worcester City Councilor Khrystian King joined the Talk of the Commonwealth to talk about “responsible development.” Before getting to the Menkiti Group and their asking for tax relief from the city for a 48-apartment development, King spoke about the killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis saying that ICE needs to be abolished.

He argued that development in Worcester must be “responsible,” meaning it must be equitable, grounded in community benefits, and provide local jobs with fair and prevailing wages. King asserted that the city council had a duty to thoroughly vet developers and hold them accountable for their contractors’ actions before granting tax breaks.

“When I ran for mayor, I talked about folks want a fair return on their tax dollars and this is not it, it’s fallen short.” Councilor King on his seeing no evidence of the roads being pre-treated before the last major snow storm despite the city having spent on equipment to do just that.
