Worcester, MA-Michael Minogue joined the Talk of the Commonwealth to fill us in on why he is running for the Republican nomination for Governor.
He began by telling us a little about himself and why he would be a “new kind of Governor.” “…what we need to make is an election of a new kind of governor that is going to solve problems and see people as neighbors, not political enemies.” He presented himself as a candidate with a unique combination of military and business leadership experience. He was a West Point graduate who completed airborne ranger school and served in Desert Storm, where he was awarded a Bronze Star.
After his military service, he became a successful businessman and was the CEO of Abiomed, a public medical device company he grew into a multi-billion dollar enterprise. He noted that he would be the first public company CEO and the first West Point graduate to serve as governor of the Commonwealth. Minogue identified investing in innovation, growing jobs, and supporting entrepreneurs as the key to restoring affordability and opportunity in the Commonwealth.
Answering questions during the conversation about his candidacy; He criticized the current administration’s energy policy as being driven by ideology, advocating instead for “common sense” solutions like natural gas pipelines and nuclear energy to lower high energy costs.”I think the politicians are not investing in innovation. They’re investing in ideology, and that costs more money, and that’s why we have high energy bills.” He stated that Massachusetts should not be a sanctuary state, “…we are not and should not be a sanctuary state because what that does is it attracts the illegal immigrants that are specifically going to be the criminals.” and endangers citizens and law enforcement.
He expressed strong support for an audit of the state legislature to ensure transparency and accountability. He positioned himself as a “public servant” and problem-solver whose military and CEO background provided the leadership skills necessary to fix the state’s issues and that his campaign has significant momentum, with the most volunteers, money raised, and cash on hand, positioning him for a general election victory.
