WORCESTER, MA-Ryan and Heather of Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers joined Tim Murray and Hank Stolz on this edition of The Podcast of Discover Central Mass to talk about the company’s newest restaurant opening in Worcester and the philosophy that drives the rapidly growing brand.

Raising Cane’s recently opened its 11th Massachusetts location in Worcester, an arrival that sparked significant excitement locally. Lines, social media buzz, and strong early turnout underscored the demand for the brand in Central Massachusetts.

During the conversation, Ryan and Heather explained that Raising Cane’s business philosophy is intentionally simple: do one thing exceptionally well. The company’s menu focuses almost entirely on chicken finger meals, a strategy designed to maintain consistent quality, speed, and operational efficiency. The goal, they said, is to serve what the company calls “the perfect chicken finger box” every time.

But the true “secret sauce,” they emphasized, is not on the menu.

Raising Cane’s culture is built around its “One Love” philosophy a commitment to serving craveable food quickly and friendly, having fun at work, and actively engaging with and supporting the local community. According to Ryan and Heather, that culture starts with the crew and extends outward to customers and neighborhoods.

They noted that each Raising Cane’s location is customized to reflect the community it serves, reinforcing the brand’s belief that local connection matters as much as consistency.

The discussion also touched on the inspirational origin story of the company’s founder, Todd Graves. Graves famously received the lowest grade in his college class for the original Raising Cane’s business plan and was repeatedly rejected by banks when seeking funding. To raise startup capital, he worked dangerous jobs in California and as a commercial fisherman in Alaska.

That perseverance is deeply embedded in the company’s traditions today. Employees are awarded a hard hat on their one-year anniversary and a mounted sockeye salmon on their five-year anniversary symbols that reflect the founder’s journey and the company’s respect for hard work and resilience.

Ryan and Heather said those stories and traditions help reinforce Raising Cane’s values as the brand continues to grow, including its newest chapter in Worcester.
