WORCESTER, MA– This Wednesday at 7 p.m., the Palladium in Worcester will host a special community screening of Shattered Ice, a powerful drama that follows a young hockey player grappling with the loss of his best friend to suicide.

The film, written by Jake Miskin and inspired by true events from his small Massachusetts hometown, aims to spark honest conversations about mental health, grief, and emotional resilience among athletes and young people.

Joining Talk of the Commonwealth to discuss the film’s message were Reliant Foundation President Kelsa Zereski and Miskin, who shared their hope that this event will help reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide — especially in communities where strength and toughness are often emphasized over vulnerability.

The Reliant Foundation is helping to promote and make possible this community screening as part of its mission to support programs that address mental health and substance misuse across Central Massachusetts.

As Zereski noted, “We want to normalize these conversations — to make it okay for people, especially young athletes, to talk about what they’re going through.”
