Leah Maroney on Free Summer Fitness in Worcester Parks: Yoga, Zumba, HIIT & More

By Staff

WORCESTER, Mass. —Leah Maroney from the city of Worcester organizes the “Summer Fitness in the Parks” program. She stopped by the Talk of the Commonwealth to share details. The program is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield and the city, and is run in partnership with the YMCA and YWCA of Central Massachusetts. The program offers a variety of free fitness classes at eight different parks in Worcester, running from June 9th to August 30th. The classes cater to all fitness levels and include activities like Tai Chi, Zumba, Yoga, and HIIT. The program aims to improve community access to health and wellness by addressing barriers like cost and transportation. The “Summer Fitness in the Parks” program is in its 6th year and aims to improve the Worcester community’s access to health and wellness. Maroney says, “We really focus on improving access to health and wellness in our community. And when we think about the social determinants of health and inequities in accessing health and wellness, that’s something that we consider when we’re looking at the parks that we choose.” “I’m excited about the warmer weather. I’m hoping that we end this streak of rain. But yeah, just excited to see everyone come out for a fitness in the parks and engage in your neighborhood and meet some new friends.”
