Worcester, MA-Lisa Swanson, President and CEO, of the Better Business Bureau of Central New England stopped to share the news on the launch of a brand-new BBB Trades Scholarship this year!

The goal is to encourage graduating students to pursue jobs in the trades and help our Accredited Businesses stand out as Better Businesses to these potential employees, thereby connecting our Accredited Businesses to the talent pipeline. The BBB has many Accredited Businesses in the trades and many are helping to launch this program which has been successful for other BBB’s across the country. Unlike a typical college scholarship, where the money is often sent to the school, this fund will directly reimburse students for work-related expenses like tools, tool belts, protective clothing, and more. Applications will open later this Spring.

Swanson said they are thrilled to be launching this scholarship program this Friday night, January 30, at the Worcester Railers game.

The Railers are having their Trades & Tech game night, right before which they’re hosting a career fair for local vocational technical students meet local employers in the trades. The BBB will have a table at this career fair and throughout the game to share all this info about the new scholarship and meet potential applicants.

New Year, Same Scammers: Financial Scams Surge in January

January creates the perfect environment for scammers. As people expect tax notices, job emails, and financial updates, fraudsters design messages that blend seamlessly into everyday activity — making the first month of the year one of the most dangerous.
