WORCESTER, MASS.- District 2 Worcester City Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson joined the Radio Roundtable with Matt Wally and Randy Feldman for a wide-ranging discussion on housing, homelessness, and other pressing issues facing the city.

Mero-Carlson highlighted the major housing developments along Shrewsbury Street and weighed in on how new construction could impact Worcester’s homelessness crisis. She posed an important question: should the city adopt a housing-first strategy or address the root causes of homelessness, such as addiction and mental illness, before adding more units?

She also spoke about Worcester’s ongoing battle against litter, stressing the need for both enforcement and community accountability.

Finally, Mero-Carlson addressed the Holden sewage dispute, noting that Worcester could face a $30 million burden. She argued that the state, which was originally a central party to the sewerage contract but failed to meet its obligations for decades, must be part of the solution — and suggested the city may need to consider suing the state.
