WORCESTER, MA- On this edition of Voice of Business, presented by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Theresa Lynn, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts, and Matt Wally from UniBank discussed the upcoming “Fork It Over” fundraiser, a culinary competition designed to support programs for girls across the region.
The event will feature local chefs competing to create original dishes using Girl Scout cookies as a key ingredient. Winners will be determined by both professional judges and a People’s Choice Award, giving attendees the opportunity to vote for their favorite creations.
Funds raised from the event will help the Girl Scouts expand access to scouting programs for girls who face financial or transportation barriers. The organization brings programs directly into afterschool programs, shelters, and housing developments so that more girls can participate.
With the support of UniBank and other sponsors, the Girl Scouts expect to serve 1,000 girls through these outreach programs this year, an increase from 800 girls the previous year.
Matt Wally said the partnership reflects UniBank’s commitment to supporting organizations that invest in the next generation of community leaders.
“As a local community bank, we love to see what the Girl Scouts are doing to empower their girls and to show them how to be leaders and how to be smart businesswomen,” Wally said.
Lynn also highlighted the powerful learning experience built into the Girl Scout cookie program, which teaches girls core business and entrepreneurial skills.
“These girls are developing their business plans. They’re learning financial skills because they have to do financial transactions. Marketing, sales, business plans, inventory is a huge part of it,” Lynn said.
The Fork It Over fundraiser will bring together local businesses, chefs, and community supporters to celebrate creativity in the kitchen while helping expand opportunities for girls across Central and Western Massachusetts.
