WORCESTER, MA– Appearing on Talk of the Commonwealth with Hank Stolz, Ryan Kittredge, President of ClearPath Financial Partners, offered perspective on the recent headlines linking Amazon’s middle management layoffs to artificial intelligence.

While AI is certainly reshaping parts of the workforce, Kittredge suggested the move should be seen as part of a larger trend — a post-pandemic economic normalization. He noted that the 2021–2022 hiring surge was driven by an environment of near-zero interest rates and government stimulus, leading many companies to expand too aggressively.

“Businesses got a little bit too ahead of themselves,” Kittredge explained. As inflation and interest rates rose, companies began right-sizing operations to match sustainable growth levels.

AI’s influence on productivity and job structures is undeniable, Kittredge said, but its long-term impact on the labor market remains uncertain. For now, the story is less about machines replacing people — and more about businesses adjusting after an extraordinary economic cycle.
