WORCESTER, MA– Millbury Selectman, School Committee member, and small business owner Nick Lazzaro has officially entered the race for State Representative in the 7th Worcester District. He made the announcement Monday morning live on Talk of the Commonwealth. Lazzaro will challenge longtime incumbent Paul Frost (R-Auburn), who has represented the district for more than two decades.

“I think we’re due for a change,” Lazzaro said, emphasizing that fresh leadership is needed to address the economic pressures facing Central Massachusetts families.

Lazzaro identified affordability as the top issue shaping his campaign. He pointed to rising housing costs, increasing property taxes, and growing food insecurity as driving hardships for residents. He expressed strong support for rent stabilization, especially to protect seniors on fixed incomes from steep rent hikes that can force relocation during vulnerable stages of life.

As a small business owner himself, Lazzaro said he would bring firsthand knowledge of business challenges to Beacon Hill. He cited the need for more support and flexibility for entrepreneurs, from access to affordable healthcare to fair commercial lease terms.

“I really do believe we need representation that knows what’s going on on Main Street,” he said. “I understand what small businesses are going through.”

Lazzaro also spoke about public safety reform, driven by his family’s longstanding public service — a grandfather who served 30 years as a police officer and a father who worked as a social worker. He advocated for a model that continues to support police while integrating mental health professionals to respond to crisis-related calls.

Finally, he called for increased transparency in the state legislature, including a public audit, and positioned himself as an independent-minded candidate not controlled by party leadership.
