Before You Click “Buy”: BBB Offers Prime Day Scam Prevention Advice

Graphic-Radio Worcester

Worcester, MA- Prime Day has become one of the largest online shopping events of the year, drawing millions of consumers searching for deals on electronics, household goods, gifts, and everyday essentials. But according to Better Business Bureau of Central Massachusetts CEO Lisa Swanson, the event also creates an opportunity for scammers.

Swanson explains that fraudsters often exploit the urgency surrounding limited-time offers by creating fake websites, sending phishing emails and text messages, and promoting deals that appear too good to be true. She says the same factors that make Prime Day exciting for consumers—big discounts, countdown timers, and fear of missing out—are also powerful tools used by scammers.

Consumers are encouraged to verify website addresses, avoid clicking links from unsolicited emails or text messages, use secure payment methods, and carefully research unfamiliar sellers before making purchases.
