WORCESTER, MA- Ron Waddell, a candidate for state representative in Worcester’s 15th District, stopped by Talk of the Commonwealth to discuss his newly announced campaign and the experiences that shaped his decision to run.

Waddell spoke candidly about his personal background, including family experiences with homelessness and incarceration. He said those experiences helped inspire his work founding the nonprofit Legendary Legacies, which focuses on mentorship, youth development, and community support.

Drawing from that work, Waddell said his campaign will focus on creating systemic solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing Worcester.

His platform centers on addressing homelessness, substance use, and public safety through what he describes as a community-based ecosystem designed to support both residents and law enforcement.

Waddell also emphasized the importance of affordability for seniors and working families, as well as creating pathways for younger residents to become engaged in civic leadership and public service.

“My focus is not politics for the next election, but leadership for the next generation,” Waddell said.

Transparency in government is another central theme of his campaign. Waddell pointed to a recent vote by some elected officials against a state audit as an example of why he believes stronger transparency measures are needed.

He said voters are increasingly looking for leaders who prioritize community needs and accountability in government.

Waddell is challenging a long-time incumbent in the Democratic primary. He acknowledged that stepping into the race may create controversy but said meaningful change often requires that kind of disruption.

“For me, it’s time for leadership that meets the moment, and I’m happy to do that,” Waddell said. “When you step up to make change or do something, you’re going to agitate some and you’ll inspire others.”
