Worcester, MA -Tom Marino, one of the organizers of For a Better Worcester, calls in to talk about Charter Review and answer criticism from the Radio Roundtable. Marino says framing the discussion as just Strong Mayor vs Plan E is not something he has done. That doesn’t mean he didn’t have plenty of criticism for Worcester’s present form of government. He says people at the recent forum, held at Worcester State, were clearly concerned with transparency and the amount of power, the non-elected, City Manager has. He wants personalities taken out of it. It’s not about the individual, or even the job they’ve done, it’s about the form of government. He wants the council committees to have the power to compel people to come forward and give testimony, for the council to have more staff and feels that the amount of work a District Councilor has to do is clearly a full time job. He does not feel this a movement that will be fueled by the “progressive” left but will cut across all political ideologies.
