Rep. McGovern’s Votes on Ukraine, Israel Aid Explained
Congressman Jim McGovern was a “yes” vote on aid to Ukraine but on aid to Israel he voted “no.” He told Talk of the Commonwealth his reasons. He feels if Ukraine were to fall to Putin and the Russians that would not be the end of it. The war would spread to other countries and the U.S. would be directly involved. On aid to Israel McGovern voted no. He made clear what happened on October 8th was horrific and unconscionable. He said Netanyahu’s response has been horrific and unconscionable with over 34,000 dead, famine and his wanting to enlarge the military attack. McGovern said he is a friend of Israel but he feels Netanyahu is doing the country a disservice. He also voted against the TikTok ban.
Mayor Discusses WPS, MBTA Boost and Heart to Hub Express
Mayor Joe Petty stopped into the Radio Worcester studio at Sherwood’s Diner and talked about Worcester Public Schools and the recent op-ed piece by State Rep. Mary Keefe and Jennifer Davis Carey on the aging (ancient) infrastructure. Petty talked about how the funding works. He also spoke about a new transportation committee to advocate the MBTA for increased service between Worcester and Boston and a return of the Heart to Hub Express.
City Violence and Upcoming State of the City Address
The Radio Roundtable looks at the increased violence in the city and talks about the police response and the formation of the WPD Crime Gun Intelligence Unit. The State of the City address is coming up and Hank asks the panel what they think the state of the city is and if the City Manager could step on some toes in delivering this address. Does he lay out a long term vision, talk about past accomplishments, challenges, what should he focus on? The Round Table finishes off with a couple of classics potholes and litter. Mark Henderson brings up the Clark University head of the Holocaust Center heading to Assumption.
