Worcester City Manager Eric Batista and Inspectional Services Commissioner Christopher Spencer came to the Radio Worcester Studio to do a deep dive into the controversial Rental Registry. The City Manager expressed surprise that it has received such push back and made clear this is something that has been talked about for several years after first being raised by Councilor Matt Wally in 2019. The CM and Commissioner made clear this is being done with safety in mind and no one is going to come bursting into your apartment without warning. All Rental Properties must be registered and the time to register has been extended. In May of 2022 fire officials called for the rental registry in the wake of fatal fires in the city. The Rental Registry was launched on March 9th of this year. The City Manager made clear the fines are only for those who refuse to comply and pay the $15 fee to register.
