Worcester’s Snowstorm Response: Jay Fink Addresses Criticism

A lot of Worcester residents unhappy with the city response to Sunday’s storm. Public Works and Park Commissioner Jay Fink explains to Talk of the Commonwealth what went into the preparation and cleanup. Fink said early indications were the storm was going to drop 8-10 inches of snow, not the 15+ the city ended up with. He pointed out that between pre-treating the roads and plowing during the long duration storm many workers were out for over 20 hours or more. At the height of the storm he says 317 pieces of equipment were on Worcester roads. Fink says the department could use more equipment and more plow drivers. He says after plows have come through that residents should be mindful of throwing more snow into the roads. That snow should be shoveled onto lawns. Fink says he has gotten feedback from Councilors about trouble spots and side streets. That they have been marked so that more attention can be paid to them during coming storms.
