WORCESTER, MA– On this edition of the Discover Central Mass Podcast, hosts Hank and Tim shine a light on two incredible community-driven organizations: the BORO Sugar Shack in Westborough and The Stone Church in Hardwick (Gilbertville village).
Representatives from BORO Sugar Shack shared how their delightful candy shop doubles as a powerful vocational training center for young adults with disabilities. The program blends education with hands-on retail experience — teaching vital workplace skills that help participants gain independence and confidence. The shelves are filled with a fun mix of nostalgic classics and trendy sweets including imported Swedish candies, and every purchase directly supports operations and the students they empower. Santa will be making special visits to the shop December 6th and 7th from 12–4 PM — a great opportunity to enjoy a treat while supporting a great cause.

The episode also featured Friends of the Stone Church, the group that successfully rescued the historic 1876 Stone Church and transformed it into a thriving cultural venue for concerts, arts, and community gatherings. The organization spoke about the building’s treasured architecture, local history, and the outpouring of regional support that has made its revival possible. To ring in the season, they’ll be hosting two free Christmas concerts on December 7th and 21st, inviting all to experience holiday magic in a one-of-a-kind setting.
