WORCESTER, MA– Tim Murray, President and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, gives us his takeaways on the recent Worcester municipal election.

Murray shared his perspective that the election was a positive event for the city, marked by increased voter turnout and a focus on local issues. He addressed the “Chamber candidate” label applied to some politicians, clarifying that the Chamber’s membership is predominantly small businesses and that candidates have a wide range of experiences beyond their business connections.

Murray also discussed the need for collaboration and a less divisive tone on the new City Council, offered a strong defense of Mayor Joe Petty’s leadership and re-election, and concluded by highlighting upcoming events for the Chamber’s 150th anniversary.

Worcester Chamber Survey: Residents Concerned About Housing, City Council Dysfunction

Tim Murray, President and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, discussed results from a new survey showing that while 50% of residents believe Worcester is headed in the right direction, that figure is down 10% from two years ago. Housing has emerged as the top concern at 22%, overtaking public safety. More than 80% of respondents said the City Council should focus on local and neighborhood issues. The survey also showed strong support for the Worcester Police and greater demand for vocational and technical education. Murray further criticized the Worcester Board of Health for denying a tobacco license to a women- and minority-owned nightclub, citing job losses and poor communication from city departments.

Chamber Supports Clean City Push and Culinary Growth Through Food Hub and Green Corps Initiatives

In a recent Talk of the Commonwealth interview, Tim Murray of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce spotlights two key initiatives: the Worcester Food Hub, which provides commercial kitchen space for local food entrepreneurs, and the Worcester Green Corps, a cleanup and beautification partnership. As the city intensifies efforts to combat trash and blight, the Chamber remains at the forefront of collaboration and community improvement.
