Worcester, MA- Lisa Swanson, CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Central New England, warns us about the rise of consumer scams associated with the March Madness NCAA tournament. “We know that major sporting events often lead to scams and risky purchases because of course fans and people are excited and sometimes make very quick decisions when buying tickets or placing bets.” Lisa provided expert advice on how to identify and avoid fraudulent schemes related to sports betting, resale ticket purchasing, and ticket insurance. She detailed specific red flags for consumers to watch for, offered protective measures such as using credit cards for purchases, and emphasized the importance of using licensed and reputable vendors. “If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is, especially when demand is high, right?” Using a credit card for ticket purchases is strongly recommended as it provides significant fraud protection.
