WORCESTER, MASS.- Dr. Satya Mitra, a candidate for Worcester City Council At-Large, shares a story shaped by hardship, perseverance, and a deep commitment to service. Born in India, Dr. Mitra lost his mother at a young age and faced the challenge of supporting a family while his father battled blindness and poor health. These early experiences, he says, instilled in him both resilience and a desire to help others.
After earning a Ph.D. in biochemistry, Dr. Mitra immigrated to the United States and found his purpose in helping individuals and small businesses navigate financial matters. Today, he runs a successful tax and financial services firm in Worcester.
Dr. Mitra believes his financial expertise can benefit the city, particularly when it comes to budget management and long-term planning. But his campaign is about more than just numbers—it’s about collaboration and building leadership.
“A leader is a good leader when he produces another leader, when he gives an opportunity to someone else,” he says.
His civic resume is long, having served on numerous local boards and community organizations. He and his wife also founded Joy Guru Humanitarian Services, a nonprofit focused on improving lives through compassion and action.
Dr. Mitra is proud of Worcester’s cultural and civic institutions—Mechanics Hall, the Worcester Art Museum—and believes they should be showcased more prominently. He also shares thoughtful perspectives on homelessness, public safety, and street infrastructure—all available at electdrmitra.com.
Worcester’s Preliminary Election takes place September 2, with the Municipal Election set for November 4.
