WORCESTER, MA– Dr. Charles Steinberg joined Talk of the Commonwealth to offer a preview of a new anthem he has written for the City of Worcester, titled “We Are Worcester.” While the lyrics have not yet been added to the instrumental track, Steinberg shared the complete words of the song during the interview, reciting them in full.

The lyrics celebrate Worcester’s long and layered history, touching on its industrial roots, immigrant heritage, and ongoing legacy of innovation and cultural renewal. Steinberg explained that the song was intentionally written as an anthem for the entire city, not as a theme for the WooSox baseball team, but as something meant to represent Worcester as a whole.

He emphasized that “We Are Worcester” was designed to be participatory, encouraging community pride and shared ownership. The goal, he said, is for residents to see themselves in the song and feel invited to take part in its message.

Musically, the anthem is composed of two distinct sections. One is a tough, blues-rock inspired passage that reflects the city’s grit and resilience. The other shifts to a lighter, more ethereal sound, symbolizing Worcester’s creativity, imagination, and forward-looking spirit.

Steinberg described the contrast as intentional, capturing both the hard-earned strength of Worcester’s past and the optimism driving its future.
