WORCESTER, MA-Michael Villa will be signing his book “Pints and Power” at Boland’s on Tuesday, September 9th at 7:00 PM. Villa tells us that the book was inspired by his daughter’s Junior year abroad in Ireland, where she met her soon to be husband and which led to his own deep personal connection with the country, its people, and its culture. In describing the book Villa said “It’s a history book. It’s a memoir, it’s a beer book. It’s none of them and all of them.”

His book looks at how Guinness has become something much more than a beer and how the “perfect pour” is part of a ritual that binds people together. The conversation highlights the historical significance of the Guinness brand and its connection to Irish identity here in Central MA and around the world. “…the more I dug into it, the more I make the claim that what we understand is modern Irish idea of Ireland floated into reality today in a river of Guinness, fundamentally.”

Villa talks about returning from Ireland and finding Boland’s in Worcester. How Boland’s exemplifies the way a true Irish Pub can bring the community together even here in America. He devoted a chapter to the magic of Boland’s making it the perfect place for the book launch.

Mike Ladd will be providing music at the event. www.pintsandpower.com/
